The Anchor of the Fighting Poland to light up on the INTRACO skyscraper

PHN traditionally joins in the commemoration of the anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. On the 80th anniversary, the Insurgent Anchor – the symbol of the Fighting Poland – will light up on the INTRACO building, owned by the PHN Group.

The Fighting Poland sign will light up at dusk on 1 August on both sides of the INTRACO building, located in Warsaw's Muranów district at 2 Stawki Street. The Insurgent Anchor will cover the upper part of the building between the 30th and 37th floors. Its size will be about 20 metres, making it visible from at least a few kilometres to the north and south of the capital.

“Heroic events which, after 80 years, still touch the hearts of all generations, not only of Varsovians, deserve the highest tribute and respect. The Insurgent Anchor, which will appear once again on our INTRACO skyscraper, will be a symbol of remembrance of those who stood up to uneven fight for freedom against the German occupier and an expression of PHN Group's personal respect for those events,” said Wiesław Malicki, President of the Management Board of Polski Holding Nieruchomości.

The action has been organised by the PHN Group for more than 10 years with the participation of around 30 tenants of the INTRACO building, who switch the lights in the office premises on and off in an appropriate manner. Thanks to the perfect exposure of the building, which is more than 100 metres high, the luminous anchors can be observed by thousands of Varsovians.

The sign in which the letter P stands for Poland, and W-shaped arms mean fight (“walka” in Polish) or an anchor, became a symbol of hope for regaining independence and was widely used during the Second World War. The Warsaw Uprising broke out on August 1, 1944 at 5 p.m. and was the largest military effort undertaken by the underground resistance in German-occupied Europe. During the uneven 63-day battle, around 16,000 Polish soldiers and between 150,000 and 200,000 civilian residents of the capital were killed. Most of the buildings on the left bank of Warsaw were also destroyed.
