Business goes sailing for the children – the second edition of Charity Regatta PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING 2017 has ended

Twenty-eight crews competed in the second edition of Charity Regatta PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING 2017, which took place in the Bay of Gdańsk over the last weekend. The crews donated a total of PLN 168,000 to the “Bursztynowa Przystań” Children’s Hospice in Gdynia. The Korporacja Budowlana DORACO crew headed by Michał Korneszczuk demonstrated the best sailing skills, with teams from PwC Polska (headed by Łukasz Wosiński) and PGNiG Upstream Norway (headed by Tomasz Cichocki) ranking second and third, respectively.

The second edition of Charity Regatta PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING 2017 began on Friday, July 7 with an official welcome ceremony for the crews, followed by a group and boat draw conducted by Tomasz Chamera, Chairman of the Polish Yachting Association. The 28 crews were divided into four qualifying groups. The next item on the agenda was a meeting with PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING 2017 special guest: Zbigniew Gutkowski – the first Pole ever to take part in the round-the-world races VELUX 5 Oceans Race and Vendée Globe. During the regatta, his IMOCA Open 60 yacht was moored in the President’s Pool and open to visitors.

The competition began on Saturday morning after the official opening of the regatta by Vice-President of Gdynia Michał Guć, Head of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction Maciej Michałowski and President of the Management Board of PHN S.A. Maciej Jankiewicz, followed by the regatta briefing. The event brought together CEOs and owners of leading Polish companies as well as Poland’s best regatta sailors and ocean-going yachtsmen. Participants included Tomasz Cichocki, Zbigniew Gutkowski, Michał Korneszczuk, Łukasz Przybytek, Łukasz Wosiński and Olympic sailor Dominik Życki. The regatta was a match racing event with eight Balt 23 yachts. Due to the variable weather conditions, one qualifier race was held in each group, and the final round consisted of two races. In this year’s event, the Korporacja Budowlana DORACO crew demonstrated the best sailing skills. Following a fierce competition, the final ranking was as follows:

In the evening, Father Grzegorz Miloch, Head of the “Bursztynowa Przystań” Children’s Hospice, extended his thanks to all the companies that supported his facility. Next, Kazimierz Smoliński (Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction), Dorota Arciszewska-Mielewska (Member of the Polish Parliament), Janusz Śniadek (Member of the Polish Parliament) and Izabela Felczak-Poturnicka (Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PHN S.A.) awarded medals to all regatta participants.

This year’s PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING 2017 event was organized under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, honorary patronage of the President of Gdynia and the patronage of Pomorski Związek Żeglarski (Pomeranian Sailing Association). The regatta was sponsored by: Chopin Airport Development, LOTOS Group, MARVIPOL, and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo. Moreover, PHN has acquired the following partners with an established market position to support the organization of the event: Hotel Courtyard by Marriott Gdynia Waterfront, importer of Land Rover cars, D.A.D. (producer of personalized sailing clothing), Wine Taste by Kamecki, and OSHEE – leader of the isotonic drinks market in Poland. Media patrons are: Channel 2 of Telewizja Polska, Polish Press Agency, “Wprost” and “Do Rzeczy” weekly, real estate market website PropertyNews and sailing magazine “Jachting.”

Held at the beginning of the vacation season in Gdynia, Charity Regatta PHN-GDYNIA VIP RACING has now become a permanent part of the summer event calendar.
