THE SYMBOL OF FIGHTING POLAND WILL APPEAR ON THE INTRACO BUILDING

Thursday, August 1, 2019 - 08:46

On August 1, the anchor-shaped symbol of Fighting Poland will appear on the INTRACO skyscraper belonging to the PHN Group. This is to symbolically pay tribute to Warsaw insurgents and residents as part of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

Polski Holding Nieruchomości will commemorate the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising in this symbolic way already for the sixth time. The lights lit in 72 windows, on 8 floors between the 30th and 37th floor of the INTRACO office building situated in Warsaw at ul. Stawki 2, will form the symbol of the Polish Underground State. It will be visible from a distance of even 5 kilometers.

“August 1 is a special day in the Polish tradition, especially for the residents of Warsaw. On the stroke of the “W” hour, when traffic in the capital and other Polish cities stops momentarily, we pay tribute to the insurgents and residents of Warsaw from 1944. Then, once again, the anchor-shaped symbol will appear on the Intraco building, a symbol of our remembrance and tribute to the Warsaw Uprising insurgents,” said Marcin Mazurek, President of Polski Holding Nieruchomości.

The Warsaw Uprising broke out on August 1, 1944 at 5 p.m. and was the largest military effort undertaken by the underground resistance in German-occupied Europe. The uneven fight lasted for over two months. The anchor-shaped symbol of Fighting Poland was widely used during World War II as the symbol of the Polish Underground State and the Home Army. The sign in which the letter P stands for Poland, and W-shaped arms mean fight (“walka” in Polish) or an “anchor”, symbolizes the hope for regaining independence.
